AALI MASJID

Aali Masjid is situated towards North West of Srinagar. It is located at North Eastern corner of Main Eid Gah of Srinagar. During the reign of Sultan Sikandar, this land was purchased by Syed Mir Mohmmad Hamdani. Later Ali Shah (Amir Khan – 1413-1420) the son of Sultan Sikandar constructed the mosque at  this place and named it Aali Masjid. It was further enlarged by Islam Khan, the Governor of Aurangzeb. The mosque was set ablaze during the time of Afghan Governor Abdullah Khan (1800) and was dismantled. It was reconstructed by Pathan Sardar Gul Mohd Khan in 1801. Recently there was a popular belief among the local people that the mosque is haunted and no prayers were offered in the mosque. But the mosque has been recently renovated by Department of Archaeology and is open to prayers.
