PATHER MASJID

Pather Masjid or Nav Masjid is situated on the left bank of the river Jhelum face to face with Khanqan-i-Maulla which is situated on the right bank. It was buit in 1623 under the supervision of Mughal Emperor Jehangir’s wife Noor Jahan Begum. The architecture of this mosque, planned by the famous Mughal architect, Malik Hyder Chadoora, is unique in comparison to any other mosque. Architecturally, the Pather Masjid is one of the most important monuments built by the Mughals in Kashmir. The mosque is not built on any ancient foundations but rather raised as an independent building on solid foundation. It was built in pure granite polished stone on rectangular plane with a length of 180 feet and breadth 54 feet.
