Role of mothers in bringing peace to Kashmir

Becoming a mother implies all at once, pain, joy & a mission

Mothers are  the creators & nurturers of the world. The word mother is identified with love, affection, attachment, selfless care & positivity. The word itself brings smile on every face, swells heart with pride, gives goosebumps by reviving all happy memories of the childhood. Even if someone grows up to be  the most successful or most hated man in the world, a mother would always see him as she viewed her child while he was born. The opinion of the world does not matter for a mother & she would always love her child despite of his deeds & all the judgement & labelling that he carries. A mother would take all the pain & give everything that she has to free her kid from any type of suffering. Such is the nature of mother, & it is same across all religions, cast, creeds & even animals. Though we identify a mother as a soft, kind hearted creature, but she would fight with anything in the world, if it comes to saving her offspring.

We all learn our first lessons from our mothers, she’s our school & moulds us into the human we grow up to be. A child learns a great deal from the mother & possibly has the greatest impact on their lives. What the child becomes in future, what he does with his life, what path he takes is largely determined by what his mother has taught him during his growing years. We all remember & admire Rajmata Jijabai as respectfully as we do Shivaji Maharaj, because she was the one who had instilled the priciples that made Shivaji Maharaj the greatest of the Kings India ever had & raised him to be the savior of the nation.

Even in Kashmir, there was a time when the mothers, brainwashed by Islamist radicals & separatists, would urge their sons to join militancy & pick up a weapon against the state to spread violence & fear. They never realized, where they were leading their sons to, until the recent times, when they have understood the reality & truth behind the fake promises made by the separatists. Moreover, now they identify themselves as an inseparable part of the nation & have shown tremendous faith in the democratic thought process & also out rightly rejected the idea of picking up arms & terrorizing their own people & nation. One main aspect that has led to reduction in No of youth following the idea of terrorism is that the mothers & families are taking all the possible precautions to prevent their sons from taking the wrong path & follow the wrong company. Though we may boast about the reduced strength of terrorists in Kashmir, but we know that the battle is only half won & larger efforts are required to be made, if we wish to eradicate this evil. Reaching out to families, especially mothers & sisters of young boys & terrorists, sensitizing them & showing them the correct picture would help a great deal in the cause. The youth here takes up arms because they are constantly fed with false narratives since their childhoods using social media as a tool & religion as a catalyst. Efforts are made to keep them far from the  truth of the actual world. However, reality is completely different from what is portrayed by the separatists & Pakistan favoring clerics on behest of Pakistan.

Peace is not only the absence of violence & conflicts. The educational & behavioural role of parents, especially that of the mother, is crucial. Enabling a child to grow in a healthy & violence free environment, thus enabling him to reach its full potential & to find his role in society, is the foundation of lasting peace & satisfaction at the individual level. Such individuals contribute to the society in a constructive manner & levy some meaning to their lives. Mothers have got way more reach, control & insight into her sons heart, as compared to anyone else. As have been witnessed during No of operations that appeal for surrender made by the mother often compel her son to abide & surrender. Forced by her love & pained by the agony of her loss, the terrorists more often than not consider surrendering. We must be hopeful that the coming generation in Kashmir will choose the right path & be the pride of the nation. When this happens, it surely would be due to the sacrifices & efforts of the mothers. And as always, their efforts for the nation’s cause would go unnoticed. However, unperturbed by all this,  their contentment would be in safety of their sons.
