SAHEB PEER BUKHARI : PEER BABA

It is said that in the year 1947, a 45 year old Sufi Saint came to Uriand started preaching the local population. He soon came to berevered by the populace. Though, not much is known about the Saint, the locals have unflinching faith in the shrine of ‘Peer Baba’Uri, as the Mazar is known. It is believed that in the 1965 and 1971 Indo Pakistan Wars or even today, due to the blessings of Peer Baba, Uri Garrison has not suffered major effects of enemy artillery shelling. A blind Artillery shell still lies in the middle of the military garrison at Uri. Thursday is observed as “Peer Baba Day” by Army personnel and the locals when everyone offers prayers and seeks the blessings of the Holy Saint. Army units offer prasad of “Halwa” and all devotees who want their desires fulfilled also offer “Chadar” at the Mazar.
