SPRING IN KASHMIR

The Vale of Kashmir or the Kashmir Valley is bounded by Pir Panjal on the Southwest and the mighty Himalayas on the Northeast. Kashmir is a place of simplicity and pristine natural beauty. The landscape is painted by the seasons of spring on the snow dusted mountains with then sun-binned shoulders and streams.

As the severe winter marked by record levels of freezing weather has ended, the sudden rise in the temperature with mercury rising above the normal has marked an early arrival of spring in Kashmir Valley. The entire valley is soaked in freshness and tempting fragrance. In spring all around one can see various flowering fruit trees including cherry, apple, apricot and almond in full blossom. A new life evolves through the withered bodies of the trees which were made hopeless & colourless by winters. A new thin layer of green fleshy coat covers the ground. One can see life renewing everywhere.

People too have shed their winter ferans and are moving out and about the countryside. All people can be seen sitting and gossiping outside small wooden rundown shops of the villages. Some fellows can also be seen in the orchards, returning to the hard work of cultivating the land. Children too enjoy the arrival of spring in their own way. Every day comes with a different feeling of joy for them, especially when they leave their homes early in the morning, making their way to neighbors and villages to enjoy the season.

The sky becomes as colourful as the landscape below. Rivers & streams make their way from the dense forest to reach the valley plains. The sound produced by the waves after touching the rocky ground washes away the worries of daily life. The chirping of birds provides a pleasing chorus & green grass a natural sofa to relax and watch the day go by. The magic of spring in Kashmir is spellbinding. It reminds us of the famous quote by Amir Khusro.
