Tanveer Khan : J&K’s First IES Officer
Bringing glory to the Kashmir valley, Tanveer Ahmed Khan of Kulgam district of Jammu & Kashmir became the first to qualify for the Indian Economic Services exam from the union territory and secured second position at the all India level. The 26 year old Tanveer, who in his maiden attempt aced the tough exam, hails from a poor family. His father works as a farmer in summers and a seasonal rickshaw puller in winters. Inspite of the financial condition, the young Tanveer never let any hardship deter his willpower and continued to work hard. He mentions how his father’s hardwork and punctuality always inspired him. He also thanks his maternal uncle Mr Ghulam Nabi for the emotional and financial support he provided to the family.
Tanveer had always been a bright student since his childhood, securing the third rank in University of Kashmir entrance test. He got admission in the post-graduate course in economics at Kashmir University and later secured Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). Being a JRF fellow, he went to institute of Development Studies, Kolkata for masters in Philosophy (M. Phil) in development studies. As the country shutdown due to the Covid pandemic, Tanveer got the time to focus and prepare for the IES exam. In his maiden attempt itself. Tanveer secured the second rank, becoming the first one from the valley to qualify for the exam.
In his message to the youth of Kashmir valley Tanveer said that they should set targets in their lives and try to achieve the desired goals by channelising their energy in the right direction with hardwork, determination and perseverance in their endeavours.
