ZIARAT WALTENGO

Waltengo Ziarat has been constructed on the Mazar of ‘Peer Syed Noor Shah Wali Bhagdadi Rehman’. The Peer, as per folklore, had come from Baghdad in the early 19th century, supposedly flying on a stone. However, it is believed that the Peer was very moved on seeing the state of people in the general area of Kund and decided to stay on.He was initially staying in village Urhil and later shifted to Waltengo, staying till his death. The people of South Kashmir, especially barren womenfolk, have tremendous faith in his blessings. Their wishes are said to fructify if they offer their prayers on the Mazar during the ‘Urs’ of the Peer. An annual ‘Urs’ is held from 1th  to 9th of February in his remembrance. Folklore says that the ‘Chashma-Wasak Nag’ has originated due to the blessings of the Peer. Cold water flows from the spring of Wesak Nag for summer months(March-October) and it shifts toTattapani (Gool, Banihal) for the winter months (November-February) as a hot water spring. The spring at Wasak Nag as per local folklore becomes functional every year on ‘Saab Ki Raat’ i.e.9thFebruary. Almost a lakh plus people visit the Ziarat during the ‘Urs’ and on ‘Saab Ki Raat’.
